Sodium carbonate is used in certain steelworks to improve the dephosphorization and desulfurization of steel.
Very high quality steels can be obtained by injecting soda ash into the cast iron after the removal of its silica by iron oxide
The Soda Ash wil reduce simultaneously the phosphorous and sulfur contents of the cast iron. The obtained slag can be recycled using a sodium carbonate recovery installation. This process allows specifications for very high quality steels to be achieved with great accuracy.
